Personal Update – June 2020

Personal Updates / Tuesday, June 30th, 2020

As the Circuit Breaker (CB) period ended and Phase 2 begun, more stores reopened. Singaporeans could dine out again and shop for more than just the ‘essentials’. I was no exception and was happy to have a sumptuous meal with my family at a restaurant.

Read on to find out what I’ve been up to, what my favourites are and other valuable lessons this month taught me!

Missing The ‘Quarantine Life’

I am still slowly re-adjusting back to what life was like before the CB period. Although I feel thrilled to be able to see my friends and dine out again, I do miss the ‘quarantine life’.

When there are more reasons to be outside now, my ‘personal home plans’ take a backseat. I seem to only be able to choose one or the other. Do you also feel that you have less time now than during the CB period?

Tell me if I’m not the only one but I forgot how tiring it was to be out the whole day and felt exhausted when I came home in the evening. I didn’t feel like doing anything else but rest or scroll through social media, let alone play the piano or workout.

I could feel the positive differences between having a slow and intentional day, and a fast-paced one. Since I miss it so much, I want to incorporate it into my current routines as much as possible. For instance, I want to continue making time to meditate and journal in the morning, and do my night-time stretches before bed.

A Quick Update On My Summer Goals

From my May 2020 post, I am very grateful to still be able to work-from-home for my internship. However, I miss the ‘human connection’ and ‘lunchtime hangouts’ with my colleagues in person. I also made some progress with the limited free GermanPod101 Beginner Pathway series, but focused more on maintaining my Duolingo and Memrise streak of 114 days. I have been doing my arm workouts less frequently since I was out more frequently, but still do it more often than not. Lastly, I experienced a slump but picked myself back up again after implementing a few strategies.

June Favourites

Ever felt your eyes hurt by the bright light illuminating from your laptop screen at night? Not only do I experience that, I also found that I tend to fall asleep longer if I expose my eyes to blue light just before sleeping.

Besides switching to dark mode or night shift mode, you can also use a blue light filter software such as f.lux. It changes the colour of your screen in accordance to the time of day. After discovering this tool, I could transition to sleep better. Now I can safely read my ebooks before going to bed!

I have been ‘binge watching’ Kimberley Wenya’s IGTVs and podcasts about modern manifestation these past few weeks. I love her contemporary yet energetic vibes. One thing that I understood more was about balance. With the help of her latest podcast episode, I was more aware of the universe seeking to bring equilibrium in our lives. For example, if you lose or outgrow certain friendships, there will be other areas in your life where you will receive the support which was previously lost.

It seems quite mystical, but believing that things are always happening for me definitely helps me to take more aligned action.

What I’m Working On In July 2020

Besides working on my internship and publishing consistently on my blog, I also want to be more mindful about how I’m spending my time. I want to still continue doing things that I love, such as playing my piano, despite having more ‘going-out’ plans now.

What is your biggest lesson that you learnt this month? I’d love to hear from you!
